Una Nowling

Una Nowling has been the co-producer of Every Woman, KKFI’s weekly program on feminism and women’s issues, since January 2018. In September 2020 she become co-producer of the Tenth Voice, KKFI’s weekly program on LGBTQIA rights and issues. She sometimes appears late at night as DJ Nightshade, the dark mistress of Goth music, and also substitutes on various music and public affairs programs where needed.

In April 2016 she was elected to the KKFI Board of Directors for a 3-year term. In April 2017 she was elected to be Vice President of the Board of Directors of KKFI, and in April 2018 she was elected as President of 90.1 FM KKFI, where she served until January 1, 2020. She remains on the Board of Directors.

Una is an engineering consultant, technical writer, and professor who is a transgender researcher and historian. She is the founder of the non-profit transgender information website Transas City, and speaks publicly at various venues in Kansas and Missouri about transgender topics. She mentors transgender youth and adults, organizes charitable outreach to transgender persons in the region, and has assisted with establishing legal protections for transgender persons.
