DJ Nightshade is the producer of the Darkest Hours, a late-night dark music show that highlights Darkwave, Cold and Minimalist Wave, Goth, Industrial, Punk, Dark Shoegaze and Emo, and even Witch House and Dark Techno Music. Also known as Mistress Nightshade, the Unholy Lesbian Vampire Queen and Dark Dominatrix of Kansas City and surrounding environs, she broadcasts the Darkest Hours every 4-8 weeks in place of Retro Redeye Express, from 10:00 pm to midnight on Saturdays. After its inaugural airing on 10 August 2019, there have been more than 50 broadcasts of the Darkest Hours.
DJ Nightshade is often joined by Maidservant Mina, her minion of darkness who explores and haunts the back alleys, underground clubs, dungeons, castles, and crypts of the inner city. Sometimes the show features the equally alliterative Maleficent Mouse, and on occasion other guests, including local dark music artists and members of the underground community. DJ Nightshade also works as a club DJ around town, wherever dark music is truly appreciated.
DJ Nightshade was formerly a member of and then producer of The Tenth Voice, KKFI’s weekly program on LGBTQIA rights and issues, from March 2014-December 2022. She was also co-producer of KKFI’s feminist radio program, Every Woman, from January 2018 until June 2022.
In April 2016 she was elected to the KKFI Board of Directors for a 3-year term. In April 2017 she was elected to be Vice President of the Board of Directors of KKFI, and in April 2018 she was elected as President of 90.1 FM KKFI until until January 1, 2020. She resigned in from the Board of Directors in January 2022.

Each week our team of hosts and producers present interviews, information, music, news and features especially important to Lesbians, Gay Men, Bisexuals, Transgender & Nonbinary people, Queer, Intersex, Asexual & Aromantic people and Allied collective communities. Since 1989, The Tenth Voice radio show has documented and informed the LGBTQIA+ Kansas City Community.
