AFSC’s Listening Project Report

On March 12, American Friends Service Committee released a report based on their listening sessions at an event at the KCMO Health Department to stimulate more debate and dialogue about budget and revenue policy and to organize community action. They began the project focusing on the Federal budget but as they held listening sessions, they soon saw that the same destructive austerity / budget cutting directive is functioning at the state and local levels. This next stage of the project is to share what was heard and to listen in public forums to the experiences of those attending. AFSC does this to empower and mobilize more and more community members to step up, tell their story and work to make budget, revenue and public policy serve community needs rather than only those of the rich and powerful.
