AND THE TREE WAS HAPPY

For our show on Monday March 21st, host Richard Mabion speaks with Matt Bunch, Horticulturist for the Giving Grove Program of Kansas City Community Gardens. The Giving Grove’s mission is to provide healthy calories, strengthen community, and improve the urban environment through a nationwide network of sustainable little orchards.

The Giving Grove supports neighborhood volunteers in planting and caring for fruit trees, nut trees, and berry brambles that improve the urban environment, increase tree canopy and provide a sustainable source of free, organically-grown food for neighborhoods facing high rates of food insecurity.

In Kansas City, the Giving Grove is a program of Kansas City Community Gardens.

The Giving Grove helps KC metropolitan and surrounding communities grow, harvest, and share healthy food by providing the resources needed to plant orchards at schools, churches, and other vacant land.

They will tell how to get started if you want to grow an orchard.  What grows best in the Midwest?  You will learn where to find an orchard if you want to go look, pick and eat when the time is ripe!

Matt Bunch has grown 10,000+ trees around the KC area and he isn’t stopping anytime soon. Please tune in as he shares the most productive varieties, growing tips, and encouragement with us.

We at EcoRadio KC are glad to encourage awareness and protection of our world.  Our goal is to assure our listeners are aware of how we can create a sustainable present for a sustainable future!

This will be a great radio hour!  We hope you can tune in!
