Art of the Song

Art of the Song is a one-hour, independently-produced radio show with music and interviews exploring inspiration and creativity through songwriting and other art forms. The program is heard on over 160 stations worldwide. Learn why songwriters and artists create, how they become inspired, and how you can tap into that creative source in every aspect of your life.

This week our guests are Ricky Kej and Lonnie Park. Ricky is an internationally renowned Indian Music Composer, Environmentalist and Professor. Ricky has been mentoring a group of talented young refugee and asylum seeker musicians, ages 15 – 25, primarily from Afghanistan and Burma. Together, they have created a multi-language version of Ricky’s song of hope and resilience, “Shine Your Light.”

Multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter and producer Lonnie Park is “one of the hardest working guys in the music business.” He is the studio talent behind many notable artists in genres from European prog-metal, new age, hip-hop, rap, gospel, to country.

We spoke with Ricky and Lonnie about their joint project MY EARTH SONGS, an album for children designed to raise awareness of environmental issues. Every one of these fun, positive, and super singalong-able songs has a catchy tune with simple, memorable lyrics. Each track was inspired by one of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
