ARTSPEAK RADIO-Body of Inquiry: The Art, Biology, and Being of Flatworms

Wednesday January 29, 2020, noon – 1pm CST, 90.1fm KKFI Kansas City Community Radio, streaming live www.kkfi.org

Producer/host Maria Vasquez Boyd welcomes Mol Mir KCAI 2019, Stephanie Nowotarski PhD, William Plummer KCAI 2018, and Jason Pollen KCAI Professor Emeritus.

Four intergenerational and interdisciplinary artists have plunged into the muck of local Kansas City waterways and emerged with an even greater understanding for the complexity gound, where at first glance, there appears to be little to see.
This immersive installation at the UMKC Gallery of Art features both researchers and artists from the Stowers Institute of Medical Research and the Kansas City Art Institute. Celebrating the joy of discovery, visitors are invited to engage with and observe planarian flatworms on micro, macro, and life-size scales. Explore our interpretations and examine your own in this body of work featuring video projection, live planarians, and individual responses from each artist. What can these flatworms teach us about being human?

Opening January 30, 2020
