Elizabeth Fischer, Executive Director of The Writers Place talks about upcoming events and programs for the fall. The Writers Place is a literary center that advances and celebrates the craft of writing. As a literary community center and gathering place for writers, readers, and the general public, we provide support, resources, and inspiration for those in our region who care about the word as art.

Author/writer Pete Dulin joins Maria in the second half of the program.

Pete Dulin is the author of KC Ale Trail (Supon Publishing, 2014), where he guides readers on an exploration of 23 craft breweries in greater Kansas City and the surrounding region. His cookbook, Last Bite: 100 Simple Recipes from Kansas City’s Best Chefs and Cooks , includes recipes, color food photography by Roy Inman, and portraits and profiles of 40 chefs and cooks in Kansas City’s culinary scene. The book features recipes Pete gathered and edited over three years for the “Last Bite” column published in Star Magazine on Sundays in The Kansas City Star.
Pete has been writing and shooting photographs professionally for newspapers, magazines and websites since 2000. Currently, his work is featured in Feast Magazine, Recommended Daily, and Northland Lifestyle with an emphasis on food and craft beer.
His writing on food, arts, business, home design and community profiles has also been featured in The Kansas City Star, Star Magazine, KC Magazine, KC Business, Good Health KC, KC Options, Home in the Northland Magazine, Lake Home Magazine, The Boston Globe, Hyde Park Bulletin, Jamaica Plain Bulletin, and The Pitch.
Previously, he was editor-in-chief of KC Magazine, KC Business, Good Health KC and KC Options. He led a complete redesign of KC Magazine that coincided with a brand relaunch and website redesign.
Pete Dulin and Pam Taylor launched and published Present Magazine from 2006-2011. This cutting-edge online magazine covered food, music, arts, culture and community in Kansas City. He co-managed operations as editor and shared responsibilities in strategic development, sales and promotions.
Before he began writing professionally, Pete cooked at Le Fou Frog and for event caterers in Kansas City and Boston. He earned a Master of Fine Arts in writing and publishing from Emerson College.
Pete travels to central Thailand as often as he can to visit his mother’s side of the family and explore the country.
