Artspeak Radio + Schleifke, Johnson, & Belger Arts

Producer/host of Arts Magazine on KKFI, Michael Hogge takes over Artspeak Radio with guests Michael Schliefke, Andrew Johnson, Consuelo Cruz, & Lilly Powell.

MICHAEL SCHLIEFKE (pronounced SHLEEF-kah) Biography- I’m a full time artist with a studio full of oil paintings, a CV full of shows and awards and this website. I’ve been afflicted with this condition since my childhood in upstate New York. I grew up studying the psychological foibles Chuck Jones presented to me during my Saturday morning cartoons. I’ve been a full time ‘Professional Artist’ since 2002. Teaching art classes helps to pay my bills on time, and more importantly to indulge my every artistic urge. I spend my days satirizing self important folks on canvas, haphazardly writing stories, or filling pages in my sketchbooks. I also curate and assemble the occasional outlandish group art show. Some of these shows have received embarrassingly flattering amounts of attention.
Whispers from my past will tell you I’ve also painted murals, opera sets, and even written and drawn a series of satiric comic books. I’ve stretched literally thousands upon thousands of canvases. I’ve slaved away in art departments for horrible TV shows. Also, I’ve helped out on a variety of commercial sculptures and museum and corporate art installations. I currently spend most of my days in my studio in Kansas City, Missouri, but travel to the far corners of the earth as often as I can to soak up different cultures, trip over foreign words and experience as much art as possible.
