ERIC DODSON, Kiosk Gallery is an artist-run exhibition space. Our mission is to provide a platform for emerging artists to share their work, and create space for the formation of community. Since our launch in 2012, we’ve put on over 60 shows, including over 250 artists. Located in the Livestock Exchange Building in the Stockyards District of KCMO.
Please join us on 3rd Friday, January 21st, as Kiosk Gallery presents Bring to a Boil, Let Simmer, a solo exhibition of drawings by Nika Winn. Winn uses pen and paper to work through imagined environments of psychological space.

Artist Statement:
In my work I focus on bridging the gap between the abstract subconscious and the concrete events and objects that influence it. Drawing inspiration from contemporary and dated pop culture, news headlines, and personal thoughts, I create landscape narratives evocative of repetitive self-soothing behaviors. Building imagery through cross-hatched scratches and meticulous dust spots, the recurrent motifs develop a hectic visual of a mental process. The details gradually build up in an ad-lib fashion, forming a visually noisy composition where they are then left to simmer. Using pared back materials of pen and paper the cartoon manipulation of thought and substance is depicted in monotone. The layers of texture and tonal variation saturate the metaphorical landscapes with a grainy dimension that alludes to the temporal nature of the psychological realm.
Nika Winn is a Kansas City based artist and illustrator. She graduated from the Kansas City Art Institute in 2013 with a BFA in Painting and Art History. She was a recipient of The Fish Factory Artist Residency in 2018 and her illustrations have been featured in The KC Pitch, Art in the Loop KC, and KC Zine Con.

BRANDON CALLOWAY, Darkmoon Comics Founder, Writer & Creator of Black Spartans, Knights of Olympus, Michael, Detroit Red , and many more series for Darkmoon Comics and Darkmoon Manga.
I have always been a huge fan of manga and anime. I have a deep love and a lot of appreciation for titles like One Piece, Yu Yu Hakusho, Attack On Titan, and many others.
One day, my friend and I were talking about how cool it would be if we created our own and I couldn’t let the idea go. I dove in and began to build the world and story of Black Spartans. After two years of research and building a solid foundation, I was able to launch chapter one of Black Spartans in March of 2021, and I am excited to keep this series running until it’s conclusion over the next few years.
It was born out of pure love and enjoyment for the Shonen genre and I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy writing it.
The traditional western comics side of Darkmoon Comics just came from me not being able to contain my creativity. I had so many stories inside of me that I wanted to get out. I have been lucky enough to come across some great writers and creators since launching Black Spartans, so I reached out to a few of them and together, we started writing the Darkmoon Comics Universe.
Black Comic Creators Podcast, Darkmoon Comics, In this podcast, we interview Black Comic and Manga Creators. You’ll get to learn about their creative process, how they built up a following and launched their business, and hopefully find some new favorite characters and stories to dive into. Our goal is to find the next Marvel, DC, and Dark Horse Comics, because we know they exist in the Black creator community.
