Audio Art on Abortion

The primary content of this program is an audio art piece titled “After Roe.” Produced in 1992, it uses a combination of real interviews with imaginary ones, some satirical, to reflect on a past when abortion was illegal in the US and predict a future [now arrived!] in which the Supreme Court has repealed the right to abortion.

This program was produced by Julie Drizin and was commissioned in 1992 by Helen Thorington for the audio art series New American Radio. Julie Drizin at the time was a senior producer of “Justice Talking” for National Public Radio (NPR) and the former Executive Producer of Pacifica (who launched Democracy Now).

The Women’s International News Gathering Service (WINGS) has been covering the global women’s movement and related issues for community radio since 1986. WINGS may be contacted at [email protected].
