Understanding Israel Palestine
Understanding Israel/Palestine advocates for a fair and even-handed U.S. foreign policy that recognizes the rights of both Palestinians and Israelis. The program offers multiple perspectives through interviews with journalists, scholars, policy experts and activists to clarify the underlying issues that are often obscured by mainstream media.
Fida Jiryis, author and advocate for Palestinians’ right to freedom, dignity and the internationally recognized right of return to their homeland, tells the story of her return to Palestine in 1995. Her book, Stranger in My Own Land, fuses the story of her father’s multigenerational family with the history of Palestinians from 1948 to the present.  Sabri Jiryis, Fida’s father, rose to political prominence in the PLO following the 1966 publication of his classic book on Palestinian resistance. Fida describes how she came to use her voice and her pen to tell the Palestinian story, following in her father’s footsteps 40 years later.
