Jaws of Justice Radio
It is the intention of Jaws of Justice Radio to investigate how to achieve justice in America, this includes issues of economic injustice, political injustice and the criminal justice system. We want to put a human face on those caught in the grasp of injustice and those that are part of an unjust system. We strive to dispel the misconceptions created by the news and entertainment industry, politicians and our educational system.

Jaws of Justice Radio took a look at the Bail Bond industry in December of 2018, the arguments used to support it, the unfair effects on the poor, the negative effects on the economy and local communities. We replay three interviews Jamie Jackson did with groups working to eliminate the practice.
Host Jamie Jackson starts out talking with Professor Peter Edelman, Carmack Waterhouse Professor Of Law And Public Policy at the Georgetown Law Center about the myths and misconceptions used to support the Bail Bond system and how this system that is unique to the US and the Philippines is bad policy. They also talk about the mass bailout of prisoners at Rikers Island in New York City.

Next Jamie returns with an interview with Cherise Fanne Burdee, Executive Director of the Pretrial Justice Institute about their efforts to educate about the bail bond industry and support efforts in communities across the nation to reform or eliminate the bail bond system.

What Is Next for Justice System Reform with the Sentencing Project?
Last year’s passage of bipartisan Justice Reform has been praised for the issues addressed and criticism for the issues that were not addressed. Advocacy groups, legislators and government officials all have ideas of what needs to be done next. The Sentencing Project has been fighting for changes alongside prisoners, families and other advocates on the federal and state level. Today we ask what are the Sentencing Project’s next legislative priorities? Where does criminal justice reform go next? Who are the key movers in this area in Congress and what are their next goals?
Host Margo Patterson talks with Kara Gotsch, Director of Strategic Initiatives for the Sentencing Project about the criminal justice reform bill that was passed by Congress in late 2018 and their new initiative on ending excessive punishment for violent crimes.
