Biodiversity Loss

On this show we have in-studio two distinguished professors from the University of Kansas, Dr. Leonard Krishtalka, Director of the Biodiversity Institute and Professor of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology, and Dr. Jorge Soberon, Professor of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, and Senior Scientist at the Biodiversity Institute.  The first half of the show is a recording of a talk Dr. Krishtalka gave at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Lawrence on February 9th on the topic of Biodiversity Loss.   The second half is a discussion about the causes and implications of the 6th mass extinction which is now taking place.

Dr. Soberon specializes in modeling biodiversity phenomena and the fate of species under different scenarios of environmental change and conditions, including climate change.  Dr. Kristalka’s interests include science policy and administration, biodiversity informatics, and the paleobiology of mammals.
