In our first 30 minutes, Leslie interviews Kim Weaver, one of the co-founders of WyCo Mutual Aid. As the Local Health Equity Action Team (LHEAT) Lead for Wyandotte County, she works to bring the unusual and unheard voices to the table. A part of her work is presenting the HEAT report, which discusses how redlining shaped some of the current health inequities in Kansas City, KS. In 2021, she, along with the other co-founder of WyCo Mutual Aid, was awarded the Heartland Health Equity Conference Health Renegade Inaugural Award.
During Part 2 of the show, Leslie interviews Terri Barnes, Co-Founder and President of Trace’s Place – A Community Resource for Girls and Young Women. During her time at Trace’s Place, she also served 12 years as the Board Chair of the W.E.B. DuBois Learning Center. Terri is the visionary and convener of Black Women Get Fit, an annual health and wellness experience curated specifically for Black women. Terri is part of Mayor Lucas’ committee on Reparations and we will hear Terri speak about this committee’s work.
