Cultivate KC, a Locally-Grown Nonprofit Working to Grow Food and Community

Host Jon Hokenson speaks with guests Brien Darby, NEW Executive Director with Cultivate KC.

Brien Darby relocated to Kansas City from Colorado with her husband and young daughter. She worked for the Denver Botanical Gardens.  She was born in KC and still has family here.

Brien supports the staff and programs and keeps the wheels turning by keeping the focus on Cultivate KC’s core mission and strategic plan. Brien is passionate about urban farming, community building and … spreadsheets.

Her favorite vegetable is kale.

They will talk about the group’s mission, recent and upcoming events, and ways they have adapted to changes. Cultivate KC is a locally-grown nonprofit working to grow food, farms, and community in support of a sustainable and healthy local food system for all. They believe that growing and sharing local food nurtures our ability to care for each other and the world in which we live.

Cultivate KC works to create a democratic, just and sustainable food system that is resilient and adaptable.  That entails:

  • viable farm and food businesses across the food region
  • local food access for all
  • local food integrated into the civic life of the community

It is understandable to freak out over climate change, but the challenge is to work hard on this crisis while still enjoying life on what is still a beautiful planet.

We at EcoRadio KC are glad to encourage awareness and protection of our world. We can create a sustainable present for a sustainable future!

This will be a great radio hour!

We hope you tune in!
