Discussion with Center For Neighborhoods Dina Newman

Neighborhood leaders and advocates provide an important network of engaged citizens. However, neighborhoods often lack capacity, technical assistance, and the resources to implement local plans and improve their area.

The UMKC Department of Architecture, Urban Planning + Design has developed the Center for Neighborhoods in partnership with the State of Missouri and community partners to address the challenges facing neighborhoods in Kansas City, Missouri. The Center for Neighborhoods provides a catalyst for positive community change through capacity-building, community development and neighborhood stabilization. 

Neighborhood leaders have access to neighborhood data and maps, participate in training and workshops, and actively work with faculty and students to develop and build their organizations. Through an expanded university-community partnership, the Center for Neighborhoods will help to develop and sustain effective community-based organizations in Kansas City, Mo.

The Center for Neighborhoods provides a one-stop location where neighborhood leaders and residents can access the available resources and capacities of UMKC, Western Missouri Legal Aid, and other community resources.
