The Willow Domestic Violence Center

The Willow Domestic Violence Center dedicates itself to restoring the health and safety of people who have experienced domestic violence or human trafficking by providing safety, education, and advocacy. All of their services are free of charge, confidential, and available to all survivors of domestic abuse and human trafficking who live in Douglas, Franklin, or Jefferson County in Kansas. The Willow is a safe space for people of all sexual identities and gender expressions. All services are accessible to those in need of a translator or physical accommodation. Their services include 24 hour hotline, emergency shelter, support services, children’s services, court and systems advocacy and much more.

Host Teresa Wilke will talk with Will Averill, Director of Community Engagement at Willow Domestic Violence Center about their services, the available resources for persons affected by domestic violence and upcoming events.

Mothers of Incarcerated Sons and Daughters (MISD) Annual Women of Courage Event

MISD advocates for humane treatment of MO inmates with the MO Department of Corrections and th.rough legislative efforts in the state capital. Their members provide support to Families with loved ones in state & federal institutions who are seeking solace & justice. By coming together they find strength in themselves and in cooperation with other groups with common interest. They meet the at noon on the 2nd Saturday of the month at the Waldo Branch of the KCMO Public Library, 201 E 75th St, Kansas City, MO 64114.

Survivors Unite is uniting families who have lost a loved one to violent crime.  They understand that grief is experienced in different stages and help families heal and learn to properly release their emotions.  Survivors United meets every third Monday of the month and will meet Monday October 21st, 7 PM at Margaret’s Place, 7217 Troost, KCMO.  

The Kansas City Chapter of Missouri Citizens United for the Rehabilitation of Errants will have their monthly meeting Monday, October 21st, 6:30 PM at the Chestnut Avenue Family Resource Center, 3811 Chestnut Ave, KCMO.   MO CURE advocates for the human rights of prisoners in Missouri prisons and jails as well as those who have returned to society. MO CURE lobbys state and local governments, makes direct contact with corrections officials and sends a quarterly newsletter to supporters and prisoners. 

The mission of KC Mothers in Charge is to reduce violent crime through prevention, education and intervention and to guide and support the families of victims. On October 22, KC Mothers in Charge presents the 2019 Unity Awards for excellence in collaboration with law enforcement. This 2nd annual event will be held at the UMB Financial Corporation, First Floor Auditorium & Atrium, 1010 Grand AVE, KCMO, beginning at 5:30. Tickets are available at KCMothersinCharge.org
