For Pete’s Sake, Part 1

PART 1 of a two-part musical celebration of Pete Seeger,s 100 birthday, produced by musician and Petes friend, Larry Long. Pete Seeger is heard speaking and Larry singing at the beginning of this program.

Followed by a recording from a gathering of community leaders, activists and musicians organized and led by Larry Long & Dan Chouinard at a concert held in 2014 at the Fitzgerald Theatre in St. Paul, Minnesota.

As Pete Seeger wrote on the head of his banjo,THIS MACHINE SURROUNDS HATE AND FORCES IT TO SURRENDER.

Larry Long is a singer-songwriter who has written and performed hundreds of ballads celebrating everyday people and communities around the world. Author and historian Studs Terkel called Larry a true American Troubadour.

When Pete Seeger was told that Larry is often referred to as the Pete Seeger of Minnesota, Pete replied, I would be honored to be called the Larry Long of New York.
