For Pete’s Sake, Part 2

PART 2 of a two-part musical celebration of Pete Seeger’s 100th birthday, produced by musician and friend of Seeger, Larry Long. Featured is a recording from a gathering of community leaders, activists and musicians organized in honor of Pete Seeger, led by Long & Dan Chouinard at a concert held in 2014 at the Fitzgerald Theatre in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Civil rights and social justice elders read Seeger’s accounts of Paul Robeson’s activities and concerts, and confrontations with violence against him and others in freedom movements. There is a tribute to Pete’s wife, Toshi Seeger, a rousing rendition of “If I Had a Hammer,” “Climbing Jacob’s Ladder,” among other performances, and at the end of the show, a clip of Pete Seeger is heard, improvising on the song, “This Land is Your Land.”
