Freeze Frame: “Nightbitch” (R), “The Order” (R), “Flow” (PG), “Unstoppable” (PG-13)

Every dog has its day, and Amy Adams has hers in a movie with an awful title. In “Nightbitch,” Adams plays the harried mother of a two-year-old boy. She begins to morph into a dog…in her mind, anyway, and winds up running with a pack. This black comedy deals with the regrets some mothers have in sacrificing their careers for motherhood and the strain that choice can put on a marriage. “Nightbitch” is surprisingly touching thanks largely to a game cast.

The crime drama “The Order” tells the unsettling true story about a group of Neo-Nazis who terrorized the Northwest U.S. in the 1980s, declaring war against the federal government. Jude Law plays an FBI agent hoping to break the back of the white supremacist group, led by a charismatic racist played by Nicholas Hoult. This taut thriller doesn’t break any new ground but is a timely reminder of the ongoing darkness that plagues our society.

The beautifully animated film “Flow” is a wordless fable about a cat who faces a series of dangers when a massive flood submerges most of the land. The kitty joins forces with a handful of other critters to survive. It’s probably a bit too scary and confusing for young kids, but “Flow” is a thoughtful and artistic tale for older kids and adults.

“Unstoppable” is a well-acted Amazon Prime sports drama based on a true story. Jharrel Jerome plays Anthony Robles, a wrestler who achieved amazing success although he only had one leg. Jennifer Lopez plays Robles’s mom who remained supportive even when dealing with financial problems and an abusive husband. Because it’s true, “Unstoppable” manages to be inspiring while following the typical formula.
