Each week the Pacifica Radio Archives chooses a program "From the Vault" of broadcasts in a half-hour program.
This week on From The Vault we put together a collection of materials that places the dropping of the bomb on Hiroshima into perspective including a dramatic reading of John Hersey’s journalistic masterpiece “Hiroshima” written following his journey to Japan in the months following the U.S. atomic bombing August 6, 1945.
At the end of the first week of August 1945, the United States dropped an atomic bomb on the civilian population of Hiroshima, Japan, marking the dawn of the Nuclear Age.
This week, From the Vault brings you two of the more remarkable programs in the Pacifica Radio Archive: John Hersey’s “Hiroshima” – written in 1946 and adapted for radio in 2003. And then, THe Atomic Bombers: interviews with the actual crew members of the missions that dropped the bombs over Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
