Halloween (Mark and Val sit in for Kathy Peters)

And we have six hours of spooky music for you!! (Just kidding – we started out with six hours, but weren’t allowed to take over six hours of air time for some reason, so we had to cut it back to two. Some of the scariest and most gruesome songs out there are Child Ballads*, so within our two hour allotment, we’ll give you seven of these  (#s 10, 20, 51, 35, 53, 113, and 246, if you’re curious) and overall we’ll bring you ghost songs, a couple of takes on unwanted pregnancy (also resulting in ghosts), murder ballads with a supernatural twist, unfortunate encounters with the faery queen, a collection of supernatural beings, and harbingers of death and death itself.  Enjoy!!

Remember that you can listen through kkfi.org as well as 90.1 FM and that if you want to wait until Halloween itself, the show will be archived at kkfi.org for two weeks and the playlist will be available on Spinatron.

  •  The Child Ballads are 305 traditional ballads from England & Scotland, and their American variants, collected by Francis James Child of Harvard University and during the second half of the 19th century originally published in ten volumes between 1882 and 1898 under the title The English and Scottish Popular Ballads
