Jaws of Justice Radio investigates how we can achieve justice from a system of laws deeply rooted in economic, social and political inequality. We want to dispel misconceptions created by the news and entertainment industry, politicians and our educational system. We hope you will listen.
Tune in Monday to hear host Terri Wilke speak with Chris Gilyard, an inmate at Crossroads Correctional Center located in Cameron, Missouri. Chris reached out to Jaws of Justice. He was interviewed using the telephone.
We will play the calendar in the midpoint of our hour.
Jaws of Justice is an information platform on criminal justice system involvement. Our objective is to inform, compare and share testimonials on conditions of detention with regards to fundamental rights.
While prison environments are often opaque, Jaws of Justice offers rigorous, independent and accessible information about detention conditions. The fate of prisoners will vary considerably from one prison to another, and sometimes within the same facility.
Our listeners will be made able to see prison through the eyes of those who experience it. Testimonials go beyond technical aspects of detention, putting human experience at the heart of the narrative. They provide words, stories and images to describe the detention conditions experienced by millions of people and create a fuller picture.
On Jaws of Justice, we examine how to find justice in our society. Justice will not be served until those who are unaffected are as outraged as those who are.
Here’s the calendar for the week of August 26th:

August 26–30, 2024 marks the first annual SMART Week – a time when we come together to spread the word on the critical importance of secure gun storage to prevent gun violence. One of the smartest things adults can do to keep kids, classrooms, and communities safe from gun violence is raise awareness about secure gun storage. SMART Week is all about educating communities on the simple steps that everyone can take right now to prevent gun violence:
Secure all guns in homes and vehicles
Model responsible behavior around guns
Ask about the presence of unsecured firearms in other homes your child visits
Recognize the role of guns in suicide
Tell your peers to Be SMART
SMART Week is built on the foundation of the Be SMART public education program which promotes secure gun storage as a means to prevent kids under 18 and other unauthorized users from accessing guns. During SMART Week, advocates, community partners, and more can post on social media using #BeSMART.
By coming together, we can create a culture of safety that benefits our children and communities.
