Understanding Israel/Palestine advocates for a fair and even-handed U.S. foreign policy that recognizes the rights of both Palestinians and Israelis. The program offers multiple perspectives through interviews with journalists, scholars, policy experts and activists to clarify the underlying issues that are often obscured by mainstream media.
The advent of a new year is a time to look back as well as to look forward. In the first episode of 2025, Understanding Israel Palestine airs two interviews from 2024 episodes that comment on key developments in Israel’s war on Gaza and Lebanon. Neve Gordon, professor of international law and human rights at Queen Mary University, London talks about the application of international law to Israel’s campaign in Gaza and decisions taken by the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice. Ambassador Chas Freeman, Jr, discusses Israel’s intentions in Gaza and the West Bank and its war on Lebanon. A 30-year Foreign Service officer who has written 5 books on diplomacy and U.S. foreign policy, Freeman says the Biden administration’s inept diplomacy and responsibility for genocide in Gaza had led to a precipitous decline in U.S. influence in the world.
