Lights for Liberty

Over five hundred people gathered at Washington Square Park on Friday night in Kansas City’s edition of the Lights for Liberty. Actions of this sort were replicated throughout the country. Here in Kansas City, the evening was emceed by spoken word artist and Charlotte Street Foundation write in residence, Jessica Ayala. Speakers included sculptor Israel Alejandro Garcia Garcia, immigration attorney Michael Sharma-Crawford, Michelle Watley of Shirley’s Kitchen, Human Rights Activist, Karen Spring, whose husband is a political prisoner in Honduras., El Centro CEO, Irene Caudillo, Naomi Tolentino with AIRr, and Cecelia Belser-Patton from Missouri Jobs with Justice and SURJ. There was also poetry by Jose Faus, and written testimony of children held in detention camps red by local teenagers. KKFI captured it all.
