Making Contact 7/9

44 million Americans hold over 1.6 trillion dollars of student debt and the cost of higher education continues to skyrocket. And its the poor, people of color and women who are most severely impacted by this debt. As more and more people continue to default on their loans, and as the coronavirus crisis highlights the vulnerability of debt when people are unable to find jobs or pay off loans, solutions to the debt crisis are becoming more urgent. We look at two of these solutions. First, reporter Kathryn Styer takes a long at a free school called Berea College in Kentucky. Then, we discuss the politics of debt and how to organize a strike, with Thomas Gokey from the Debt collective.
