Missouri ACLU Lawsuits

This episode of Radio Active Magazine features an interview with Tony Rothert, Legal Director of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Missouri.  The discussion may include the following:

1. Barriers to voting:  The ACLU of Missouri has sued to protect voting rights in multiple cases (school boards, motor voter, limited IDs accepted) involving many issues (gerrymandering, felon and guardian disenfranchisement, voter assistance).

2. Protest issues related to police and racism:  The state of Missouri lost control of its police force during the Pendergast era and has yet to regain it.  Many people claim that this lack of local control makes it difficult for local officials to respond appropriately to claims of abuse of power by Kansas City police.  The ACLU seems to be having a bigger impact on issues of this nature in the St. Louis area, because the recent tragic history of excessive use of force in Ferguson has pushed the issue.
