Peace Crane Presentation at the Truman Library

Join the celebration of a gift of an original Sadako peace crane to the library. Guest speakers: Sadako’s brother, Masahiro Sasaki, and President Truman’s grandson Clifton Truman Daniels. You may recall that the young girl, Sadako, survived the US bombing of Hiroshima in 1945 but, years later, died from radiation sickness. She tried to fold 1,000 peace cranes, believing that might save her life. She and the paper peace cranes have come to represent the world’s yearning for peace. Among attendees will be Gayle June of the KC area, whose mother survived the Nagasaki bombing. Gayle’s mother died in the last few years, being memorialized by more than 1,000 peace cranes that Gayle invited people to make and send to him.

This was recorded at the Truman Library on November 19th, 2015
