Kirby Washington and Spencer Graves discuss a hybrid “Defend free speech town hall” scheduled for January 25 (Saturday), 6-8 PM Central. More information and registration is available on the website of PeaceWorks Kansas City or directly via “pwkc.org/dfs1“. The in-person event will be at Simpson House, 4509 Walnut St., KCMO 64111. The event is cosponsored by Friends of Community Media, Pacifica Fightback, PeaceWorks Kansas City, and the African People’s Socialist Party/Uhuru.
Kirby has over 20 years experience as a camera operator and photographer for major Hollywood film and television productions. He has also worked in theater including set construction, and live event projection. He studied Broadcast Engineering at Pasadena City College and 3D Technology at Sony Studios.
Spencer has a PhD in statistics and has spent a substantial portion of the past few years researching how different experts describe the increase in political polarization and violence worldwide in recent years and what they think should be done to reverse that trend. Since last July, alternate episodes of Radio Active Magazine have been offered internationally via the fortnightly “Media & Democracy” series syndicated for the Pacifica Radio Network of over 200 community radio stations with videos of the interviews available with summaries on Wikiversity under “Category:Media reform to improve democracy“. Spencer is also a lead organizer for this January 25 event as President of Friends of Community Media.
Kirby and Spencer are interviewed by Radio Active Magazine host Teresa Wilke. She is also a lead producer for Jaws of Justice Radio and EcoRadio KC, which air Mondays 9-10 AM and 6-7 PM, respectively.
