Longtime peace advocate and protest candidate Jerome Segal discusses his decades-long efforts to help resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and his proposal for a post-Oslo peace plan based on the U.N. partition plan of 1947 and the 1988 Palestinian Declaration of Independence. The significance of the declaration has not been appreciated, he says, and he discussses how and why he thinks it could be the basis for peace, which is the topic of his recent book The Olive Branch from Paletine: The Palestinian Declaration of Independence and the Path out of the Current Impasse.
