This week on CounterSpin: A Maine mayor calls for publishing the names and addresses of anyone receiving public assistance, which he calls the albatross around the state’s neck. That’s ugly, clearly, and illegal, probably—but somehow the growing number of people, many with jobs, relying on some form of aid isn’t enough to shake the notion that economic need is something you can shame people out of. Helping to develop a forceful counter-narrative is Rebecca Vallas, director of policy for the Poverty to Prosperity Program at the Center for American Progress and cohost of Talk Poverty radio. She’ll join us to talk about that.
