THIS WEEK Sunday, October 8, 2017 | 9-11AM
Shapiro Brothers are our Real! Live! Guests for the first time! Now that Mikal Shapiro Music is no longer “officially” affiliated with River Trade Radio, we can finally brag about all the incredible music she makes and have her play live on the show! She’ll be joined by partner Chad Brothers, flat-picker extraordinaire (and member of our River Trade Radio “house band” Old Sound).
Also, Kansas City Filmmaker Kevin McKinney joins us in the studio to help raise funds for KKFI 90.1 FM Kansas City Community Radio! We’ve been listener supported for darn near 30 years and we couldn’t do it without you. Kevin McKinney is the Writer and Director of the award winning film Corporate FM. About the film: “DJs have a gift of presenting the best of a community back to itself. This builds a critical mass behind local talent. When DJs are told to shut up and play the playlist, it ends an age-old symbiotic relationship between commercial radio and the community. Public radio can not fill this void because high song rotation and huge advertising budgets are not possible on public radio. Commercial radio neglects unsigned bands, small charities and even the emergence of new ideas on a local level. CORPORATE FM reveals the high-finance shell game that silenced the local voice in commercial radio across America. The film also reveals how commercial radio may become local again.”
PLEASE CALL US at 1-888-931-5534 and give how you’re able. We’ll have a limited number of copies of CORPORATE FM to give to handful of donors. We’ll also have some music download bundles available to those who support us financially. Tune in to hear how you can score some great music and support community radio!
AND…
Kathryn Golden, founder and organizer of PorchFest KC joins us to talk about this free community musical event happening October 14 in the VAlentine, Roanoke and portions of Volker neighborhoods in mid-town Kansas City with 160 bands… YES 160 BANDS! Tune in to hear music from a few of ’em.
Plus roots music from our collections. We pick up our “Vinyl Alphabet Project” with the E’s!
ALL ABOARD!
***************************
Created by Kansas City music makers Kasey Rausch and Mikal Shapiro in 2014, River Trade Radio is a live radio program dedicated to the song trade as it connects to Kansas City featuring live touring and local guests in-studio with elements of Americana, Folk, Blues, Bluegrass, Roots, Country, Jazz and more.
We aim to share our love for Kansas City, songwriting, and musical collaboration by creating a fresh dialogue about our local Roots music community – from its connections with touring artists and international influences to its historical and contemporary contributions to the craft of the song.
