Son Volt with Jay Farrar

Greetings from our mobile RV studio parked in a beautiful pine forest outside of Columbia, South Carolina. We’ve been on tour with Si Kahn’s musical Mother Jones in Heaven, and during these few days off, I’ve completed the editing for this episode of Art of the Song with singer/songwriter/band leader, Jay Farrar. One of the founding fathers of the “Alt Country” movement, Jay is a veteran of two critically acclaimed groups, Uncle Tupelo and Son Volt, the later of which is still a going concern. When we heard that Son Volt’s new album, Union, was partially recorded at the Mother Jones Museum in Mt. Olive, Illinois, we just had to learn more and talk with Jay about the process. Jay visited with us from the studios of KWMU in St. Louis, Missouri.
