Sprouts: News Deserts – The Best Source of Calcium?

Are milk, cheese and other dairy products really the best source of calcium in our food? You may be surprised to learn that plants are a better source of calcium and the many other nutrients we need for bone health. In this program, we take a hard look at the dairy industry with Mark Rifkin, a registered dietitian and sustainability specialist.

Mark Rifkin advances sustainable diets via nutrition education and challenging tactics of the animal food industries with evidence-based analysis. He is a Registered Dietitian, holds a Masters Degree in health education and in Environmental Science and Policy at Hopkins.

Mark specializes in practical applications of plant-based diets and implications for sustainability, policy and health. He previously worked in policy for the Center for Biological Diversity and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, provided nutrition counseling, and worked in environmental health. Mark enjoys volleyball, veganizing recipes, and dining out. He lives in Baltimore with his cat Roxy.
