Host David Bell speaks with Consuelo Ross, President, CEO and Founder of Against the Odds, Inc. Consuelo is a breast cancer survivor who realized her true mission is to educate, support and bring awareness to breast cancer and how it affects women of color.
The mission of Surviving the Odds is to decrease the mortality rate in African American women by increasing awareness, resources and education pertaining to breast cancer and breast health. Surviving the Odds will do this by attacking breast cancer to reverse the devastating impact it has had on African American women through community participatory partnerships and a systematic patient navigation approach.
Black people continue to face many health and health care disparities that adversely impact their overall health and well-being. These disparities have been exacerbated by the uneven impacts of our health care system which requires access to medical insurance. If a black patient does not encounter racist attitude from care providers, good luck finding the money to pay for required treatments. Under the status quo, health care bills are the leading cause of bankruptcy in the American society.
On Jaws of Justice, we examine how to find justice in our society. Justice will not be served until those who are unaffected are as outraged as those who are.
