Symbiosis vs. Toxic Self Sufficiency

Carolyn Gage’s Sermon on Toxic Self-Sufficiency draws on the work of the late American evolutionary biologist Lynn Margulis, known as the primary modern proponent for the significance of symbiosis (as opposed to competition) in evolution. Margulis was an advisor to NASA. Her books include the title Symbiotic Planet. Gage applies the model that Margulis attributed to Gaia to human relations – especially, but not limited to, lesbian relationships to the world. Carolyn Gage is a playwright, performer, director and activist, and a partly-comic and partly-serious preacher.
