THE BUSINESS OF BIOCHAR – SARATOGA BIOCHAR SOLUTIONS

On our March 20th show, host Terri Wilke will speak with Bryce Meeker, President, Northeastern Biochar Solutions, LLC.  Bryce lives in the Kansas City area and he reached out to EcoRadio KC because he wants us all to know about Saratoga Biochar Solutions, a project of Northeastern Biochar Solutions which can provide the most sustainable use of biosolids to the benefit of human health and the environment.

Saratoga Biochar Solutions is a business that was established to build, own, and operate a carbon fertilizer manufacturing facility in Moreau, NY. The facility is designed to process up to 15% of the biosolids generated in NY in the waste water treatment plant and produce a revolutionary new bio-fertilizer; Carbon Fertilizer™.

This is not our first show on the topic of biochar, which is black carbon produced from biomass sources such as wood chips, plant residues, manure or other agricultural waste products for the purpose of transforming the biomass carbon into a more stable form. Biochar is produced when organic material is heated in a zero- or low-oxygen environment. Biochar is a charcoal-like material and when it is added to soil, the effect is to remove carbon from the atmosphere and store it underground, where the carbon does not contribute to global warming. Biochar then brings agricultural benefits by boosting soil’s fertility and ability to withstand drought or flooding; it can also rid soil of heavy metals and other pollutants.

We at EcoRadio KC are glad to encourage awareness and protection of our world.  Our goal is to assure our listeners are aware of how we can create a sustainable present for a sustainable future!

This will be a great radio hour!

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can about the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”
