THROUGH AWAKENING NEW HOPE AND LIFE PURPOSE, THOSE WHO ONCE BROKE THE LAW CAN GENERATE A CYCLE OF RENEWAL

Jaws of Justice hosts Terri Wilke and Bev Livingston, Founder of Mothers of Incarcerated Sons and Daughters (MISD), talk about the very exciting first annual SUCCESS UNDER CONSTRUCTION ART EXHIBIT & AUCTION.

For more than a decade, MISD has provided persons affected by incarceration with opportunities to be informed, empowered, and inspired to become their own best advocate.  The artists in that group have donated artworks for MISD 2021 Charity Benefit to assist its continued vision to support criminal justice legislative reforms, social justice, increase public awareness, assist inmate/family matters and assist recognizing and changing the systems of injustice.

Mothers of Incarcerated Sons and Daughters (MISD) presents an amazing exhibit of artworks created and rendered by artists in the MO Department of Corrections and it will be open to the public. The virtual art experience begins at noon on November 4th, 2021 and runs through November 6th at 3 PM at http://www.32auctions.com/2021MISDartshow.  Persons may engage in the auction at anytime, anyplace with a mobile device or computer and a card for bid payment during the 3 days.

After the calendar, in the second half of our hour, host Terri Wilke will speak with Marilyn Harp, Legal Director of Kansas Legal Services and Mallory Rusch, Executive Director of Empower Missouri.  Our topic will be expungements – the removal of an arrest or conviction from a person’s criminal record.

Kansas Legal Services is a non-profit law firm and community education organization helping low- and moderate-income people in Kansas.

https://www.kansaslegalservices.org/

Their website is a remarkable tool for anyone interested in the expungement of a criminal record, their own or to be of assistance of another, regardless of the passage of time since the successful completion of the sentence and probation for the offense.

Empower Missouri is a non-profit organization headquartered in Jefferson City Missouri that has worked for the past 100 years to secure basic human needs and equal justice for every person in Missouri through coalition-building and advocacy.

Missouri has seen many legislative changes concerning expungement since 2016.  Terri and Mallory will tell listeners about the August 2021 Missouri law that greatly increased the types of offenses which qualify for expungement.
