
“Bird” Ellington Fleming, founder and Artistic Director of the Traditional Music Society, and musicians Gerald Trimble, and Nick Amir Baker discuss the roots of Middle Eastern Music.
This program was originally broadcast on KKFI, Saturday, September 28, 2024. The Traditional Music Society presented its’ annual fall concert, “Music from the Middle East – A History”. A cultural experience – exploring the rich and diverse origins of Middle Eastern music and belly dance, tracing their roots from Egypt, North Africa, and ancient Mesopotamia, Saturday, October 5th, 2pm-4pm, Unity Temple Plaza 704 West 47th Street, Kansas City MO.

Concert performances included Bayati: Arabic music ensemble, directed by multi-instrumentalist Nick Amir Baker, and renowned belly dancer, Kimberly Guanciale.
FEATURED ARTIST, Gerald Trimble known for his unique fusion of Celtic, jazz, baroque, middle eastern and Indian music. Gerald and his group, Jambaroque, performed selections from Turkish, Armenian, Kurdish and Persian traditions.
There was a special presentation by the Traditional Music Society’s Soundz of Africa ensemble with Esoke dance.
