The Tenth Voice (LGBTQIA)
The Tenth Voice is the Kansas City area's only weekly broadcast created by and for LGBTQIA+ people in our community in the Greater Kansas City area and around the world online. Listeners can tune in each Saturday at 1:00 PM. Each week our team of hosts and producers present interviews, information, music, news and features especially important to Lesbians, Gay Men, Bisexuals, Transgender & Nonbinary people, Queer, Intersex, Asexual & Aromantic people and Allied collective communities. Since 1989, The Tenth Voice radio show has documented and informed the LGBTQIA+ Kansas City Community.
First Sandra Meade and JD interview Mara Keisling, Founding Executive Director of the National Center for Transgender Equality. They talk about significant progress made over the past year in the march towards equality for the trans* community, especially areas of employment and health care, as well as the outlook and priorities for the coming year.
The next interview guest is Fiona Nowling. Fiona leads a local Kansas City Support group known as SOFFA, a group for significant others, family, friends and allies of transgender people. They discuss the mission of the support group and some of the typical issues faced by those who seek out support from the group.
The show starts out with the LGBT news for the week and then finishes with the community calendar update.
