Jeannette Armstrong – Leading by Giving

Jeannette Armstrong has been named to the Order of Canada in 2021. Here are excerpts from her address to the International Conference on the Gift Economy in Las Vegas in 2004. Her themes include diversity in environment and culture, and how communities are sustained by unilateral giving, deep listening, and genuine equality.

Speaker: Jeannette Armstrong, PhD, is a founder of En’owkin, the Okanagan Nsyilxcn language and knowledge institution of higher learning of the Syilx Okanagan Nation. She holds a Canada Research Chair in Okanagan Indigenous Knowledge and Philosophy and is a revered author, educator, artist, and activist.
