The Team
Craig Lubow is a criminal defense and family law attorney in Kansas. Craig has been a progressive activist since the early 1970s, starting in the War Resisters’ League. Craig serves on the executive committee of the Kanza Group of the Kansas Sierra Club.
Mr. Bell has significant experience in criminal matters at the local, state and federal level. After obtaining his business and tax law degrees, Mr. Bell worked as a tax and estate planning attorney. Combining his desire to help people with his love of the law, Mr. Bell then served as a trial attorney with the Missouri Public Defender’s System in Jackson County, Missouri where he represented thousands of clients in matters ranging from misdemeanor assault to first degree murder. Now in private practice as a criminal defense attorney, Mr. Bell's practice areas include white-collar, violent offenses, drug offenses, and sexual offenses.
I am a native son of Kansas City, Missouri who recently returned to this city after a long expedition, or journey that took me to some of the places in America that are referred to here at KKFI as the “Jaws of Justice!” Once I heard that terminology, I automatically knew this is where I belonged and I have been here every sense.
Latahra Smith Carnes is a licensed private investigator and a fierce community activist who diligently works to serve the public. Latahra is a mother of eight and grandmother of 30 and she founded the King Christ Freedom Project to assist individuals who are innocent and wrongly convicted.

We want to pull back the veil and reveal those that really write our laws and who our justice system is meant to protect. It is our intention to seek out alternatives to the present practice that puts the law before justice, alternatives that are restorative to those that have been wronged and just to those that have offended. In short, we want to inform our society of the realities of the existing systems and in doing so start a dialogue about how to create systems that truly seek justice for all.
The Jaws of Justice Radio group is made up of formerly incarcerated citizens, family members of victims, family members of the incarcerated, lawyers, and justice seeking members of our community. We invite you to join the dialogue.
Jaws of Justice Radio has covered issues of law enforcement, courts, incarceration, homelessness, economic injustice, foster care, death penalty, constitutional rights and more. We are looking for organizations and individuals to tell their story, and more folks that want to learn how to produce radio.

JUDY HENDERSON PREVIEWS HER NEW BOOK, WHEN THE LIGHT FINDS US, and JAWS OF JUSTICE DISCUSSES THE NEW KANSAS CITY JAIL
First, host Terri Wilke speaks with Kansas City local Judy Henderson, who was convicted and served over 30 years for a crime she did not commit. A Missouri governor pardoned her, however Judy's children were young when she was incarcerated and they were adults when she was released. She does not just forget about other moms like her. Now free, Judy advocates for justice system reform and shares her incredible story through her new book, When the Light Finds Us. During the second half of our hour, Jeff Humfeld, former producer of Jaws of Justice, along with hosts Keith Brown El and Terri Wilke will discuss the recent passage of the sales tax extension that will pay for construction of a controversial new Kansas City jail and other public safety capital improvements. The ballot language was not specific on how the money raised would be spent, so there is opportunity for public opinion on the specific use of the sales tax revenue.

Dr. Friedman is an expert on the dark side of American institutions. In her new book she shows that beginning in the 1950s, prison officials declared war on imprisoned Black people and sought to identify Black militants as a key problem creating a strategy for the management, segregation, and elimination of these individuals from the prison population that continues into the present day.
