Art of the Song 08-16

Our guests this week on Art of the Song are Patrice Pike and Wayne Sutton. Based in Austin, Texas, Pike & Sutton are a musical partnership that began in high school. Equally anchored by Patrice’s powerhouse vocals and Wayne’s electrifying guitars, the two are best known as co-founders of ‘90s jam band Sister Seven. Their debut album Heart Is A Compass is both a celebration of the duo’s R&B, soul and roots influences and an exhilarating call-to-arms for the faithful. The album marks the first time Patrice and Wayne have collaborated on new music since their last major label release in 2000. As Sister Seven, they toured with The Allman Brothers, Ray Charles, and Dave Matthews Band among others. Rolling Stone called Patrice “Tina Turner, Bessie Smith, Janis Joplin, and Robert Plant all rolled up into a tiny but explosive package.”
