Four Women for Conversations that Matter: The Making of America
"The Making of America," explores myths perpetrated by our history books that present a history from the vantage point of the colonizer and victor and omits the real cost of millions of indigenous lives in the making of this country. It critiques the celebration of Columbus Day and Thanksgiving without presenting the true account of the carnage resulting from the arrival of the European settlers.

Core Conversations with Host Leslie Scott
Leslie first interviews Wyandotte County community activist Kimberly Weaver. Kimberly is one of the co-founders of WyCo Mutual Aid. As the Local Health Equity Action Team (LHEAT) Lead for Wyandotte County, she works to bring the unusual and unheard voices to the table. Topics of conversation include redlining, health and housing in Wyandotte County.
In the 2nd half-hour, Leslie interviews Terri Barnes, who is the Founder and President of The Nia Project, which supports the success of Black girls and women. Beginning January 2, 2024, Terri will serve as Interim Executive Director of “Lead to Read” (https://www.leadtoreadkc.org/), a volunteer organization whose mission statement is to support the social, emotional and reading skills that are foundational for student success by advancing our literacy platform and mobilizing community volunteers. Terri has also previously served as Interim Executive Director and Board Chair at the W.E.B. DuBois Learning Center.

In Part 2, Leslie interviews Kathryn Evans, the founder of “Rooted Strategy” (https://www.rootedstrategy.com/). Rooted Strategy's mission is to provide support and encouragement to organizations that seek to improve the lives of people, especially those who are systematically unseen and oppressed. Kathryn states that through her work at Rooted Strategy, she desires to creatively destroy oppressive systems that intentionally and unintentionally dominate the social impact ecosystem, and to facilitate the transition towards just and inclusive spaces where power is generated to liberate people.
