Baraza African Cultures Center continues the dialogue Black in Kansas City II

Black in Kansas City is an exploration of the diversity of Black communities that have contributed to and helped shape Kansas City today. While all may have roots that go back to Africa, the routes communities and families have taken – or been taken on – have brought divergent experiences and histories for Black people in our community. Black in Kansas City explores what unites and what divides. It looks at the richness in the diversity of the cultures, histories and nationalities that are part of Kansas City today.

Our guests are Wasim Kahn, CEO of Baraza African Cultures Center. He is a Certified Diversity Professional, is Yan-Koloba Certified and has vast experience working with immigrants, refugees & indigenous peoples. Wasim has spent 30 years working cross-culturally and in international business.

Andrea Smith, Chief Education Officer of Baraza African Cultures Center, is a Certified Diversity Professional, Certified Diversity Trainer, Certified Leadership & Team Building Trainer, Certified Safe Space Trainer, is Yan-Koloba Certified and has extensive experience working with immigrants, refugees & indigenous peoples. She has over 30 years’ experience teaching on three continents, with students of all ages.

Black in Kansas City is a three-part series. The first focused on men who are leaders in their communities. The discussion took place in October 2023, at the Kansas City Public Library: Plaza Branch, with moderator Lewis Diuguid and panelists Olympic athlete Paul Ceesay, former KC mayor Sly James, visionary/founder of MyRegionWins!, Carl Stafford, and Baraza CEO Wasim Khan.

Black in Kansas City II takes place February 27, 2024 at the Kansas City Public Library: Plaza Branch. It is about women who have achieved greatness in their communities and their careers, moderated by Toni Talley, host and producer of Great Day KC, a daily lifestyle program on Fox4KC television.

Panelists include sales and operations executive, Anab Abdulahi, educator and neuropsychologist, Dr. Alicia Renee, sales, marketing and fashion industry leader and visionary Bosede Iyewarun, and 90.1FM KKFI public affairs radio host and producer, Donna Morrow Wolfe.

The third installment of the Black in Kansas City series will spotlight young adults that are contributing great things in their specific communities and the greater Kansas City community.
