This week the Pacifica Radio Archives celebrates Gay Pride Month. The Pacifica Radio Archives is proud to have recordings of many key moments in the LGBT struggle for Equal Rights going back to early discussions in the 1950 s.

Today we revisit Pacifica s coverage of the 1979 National March on Washington for Gay and Lesbian Rights.

The 1979 National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights was an important moment for the LGBTQ Communities. Tens of Thousands Marched on Washington Chanting “WE ARE EVERYWHERE..!!” On October 14 1979 Pacifica Radio recorded 4 hours live from the March and provided an entire day of LGBT programming that featured segments about Gays Lesbians Transgendered, immigration, racism in the gay community; homophobia and violence against gays. there was also time to celebrate with music, poetry and speeches from Holly Near, Meg Christian, Audre Lourde, Allen Ginsberg, Ray Hill, Flo Kennedy, Lesbian Mothers, Gay Fathers and straight allys.
