ON EXPLORATIONS: invention, innovation, science – the engines of prosperity

In the first part of this episode, Dr. Michio Kaku speaks with Randall Stross, author of the Wizard of Menlo Park, a biography of Thomas Edison. It was started with Thomas Edison, and now, quantum computers may eventually replace ordinary transistors and usher in a new quantum era.

In the second half, Dr. Kaku speaks with innovation expert, MIT Professor Seth Lloyd, about quantum computers – the second industrial evolution.  He calls himself a “quantum mechanic”.  Lloyd’s most provocative idea is that the universe is a giant computer. Everything in it, including all living systems, are running one enormous program.

Exploration is an hour-long radio program on science, technology, politics, and the environment. Topics covered include black holes, time travel, higher dimensions, string theory, wormholes, search for extra-terrestrial life, dark matter and dark energy, the future of space travel, genetic engineering, the aging process, the future of medicine, the human body shop, artificial intelligence, the future of computers and robots, as well as topics from science fiction.
