Organized Labor and the Civil Rights Movement

We all remember Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. for his legacy in the civil rights movement. Maybe you know he was shot while supporting a strike of garbage collectors in Memphis. But we bet you don’t know about the broad role many labor unions played in supporting civil rights or the individual union heroes who stood up for civil rights. This Thursday on the Heartland Labor Forum, we’ll talk to Patricia Jones Macklin and Michael Bell about their memories of the movement and the leaders who dedicated themselves to both the labor and civil rights. Our feature is Remember Our Struggle.
