In a continuing effort to bring you timely news and public affairs programming on the crucial issues of the day, KKFI will be making some program schedule changes next week. KKFI Programming Committee chair Mark Andruss announced the permanent timeslot for the “Jaws of Justice Radio” show, mentioning “we’re biased towards locally-produced shows” on the KKFI schedule. The 30-minute program airs Monday, February 6 at 9:00 am. (Read below for more music and public affairs program changes)

“And Justice For All.” Can we be truly confident that those last four words from our “Pledge of Allegiance” are being exercised in our nation? In the summer of 2008, Jeff Humfeld and Gabi Otto organized a group of citizens at KKFI and created the program “Jaws of Justice Radio” to answer that question. They decided to call the program “Jaws of Justice Radio” because the program puts a face on those who have found themselves caught in the “jaws” of what can be considered an unjust system as well as those who play a role in that system.

The group is comprised of formerly incarcerated citizens, family members of victims, the incarcerated, attorneys and community members seeking Justice For All.

What is justice?  Justice can be defined as fairness; authority exercised in the maintenance of the law. It is the intention of Jaws of Justice Radio to investigate how to achieve justice in America, this includes issues of economic injustice, political injustice and our criminal justice system.

Jaws of Justice Radio strives to dispel the misconceptions created by the news and entertainment industry, politicians and our education system. This radio program’s mission is to pull back the curtain and reveal the individuals who pen our laws as well as those whom our justice system is designed to protect.

When people come together, alternatives to the present practice that places the law before justice can be found, alternatives that are restorative to those who have been wronged, and just to those who have offended the law.

Jaws of Justice Radio invites listeners to join the pursuit of the goal  to inform our society about the realities of the existing systems and in doing so, start a dialogue in our community about justice, where the system works, where it does not, and what can be done to make the system about justice, not just the law, which is often written by lobbyist for special interests. Only then, can we say there is truly Justice For All.

New Missouri State Representative (41st District) Brandon Ellington, serving on the Corrections Committee, will be the show’s first guest in their new timeslot. Tune in to learn about a number of important bills that will come through that committee.

Here is the planned schedule of Jaws of Justice Radio for February:

  • February 6 – Brandon Ellington talks legislation with Melvin Merritt.
  • February 13 – Michele Alexander, author of THE NEW JIM CROW, in a taped interview with Mike Clinton.
  • February 20 – Anne Wright, former Army Officer and diplomat, talks about the erosion of our constitutional  rights with Margo Patterson.
