AN ALGERIAN MIXTAPE

Today we bring a mix of music from Algeria, primarily featuring two female singers: Houria Aichi and Cheikha Rimitti. Both of these artists also were based in Paris due to the strong and contentious French-Algerian shared history. We also listen to a younger Algerian musician who is based in Paris, Anouar Kaddour Cherif. He plays the Algerian lute, the Mandole, in a jazz quartet setting fetauring bass clarinet, drums and upright bass. (Note: This show first aired August 28, 2022.)

Music from around the world is featured, bringing the audience into the realm of other cultures through music, hopefully expanding empathy for the other, and recognizing that other in ourselves.
