AN ALGERIAN MIXTAPE
Today we bring a mix of music from Algeria, primarily featuring two female singers: Houria Aichi and Cheikha Rimitti. Both of these artists also were based in Paris due to the strong and contentious French-Algerian shared history. We also listen to a younger Algerian musician who is based in Paris, Anouar Kaddour Cherif. He plays the Algerian lute, the Mandole, in a jazz quartet setting fetauring bass clarinet, drums and upright bass.
